Chikamaka Band and Five Other Tennessee Native American Groups Stripped of Their Tribal Recognition

A judge has stripped six Native American groups in Tennessee of their legal status.
It follows a political squabble over the Tennessee Commission on Indian Affairs.
Members approved the six groups for official status.. On the last meeting before the Commission was disbanded.
The groups claim to be descendants of Cherokees and other tribes who were moved out of the state.
The Cherokee nation disapproves of the Tennessee groups.
One of them is on the Cumberland Plateau and Sequatchie valley.
The Chikamaka Band is meeting in Coalmont tomorrow to talk about their future.
